...has canine diabetes!
Bailey has been 'off' for quite a few weeks now, but I put it down to the sudden hot spell we had. But a few days before I went away, I thought it was something more. The day we left, we took him to the vet because his awful rash was back on his stomach, and it was infected again. So the vet gave him an antibiotic shot.
I told her of my concerns, and she said that when I get back to get a urine sample to her and she would test it. So Wednesday I did just that, and she phoned that afternoon and confirmed the diagnosis. Took him yesterday for a blood test, and another vet at the practice rang this afternoon with the results. Yes he has diabetes, and take him up around 7pm to start insulin. Apparently the blood test showed some other concerns, and as it is a long weekend here he didn't want ups to wait to see the other vet on Tuesday. If we waited, Bailey might have been rather sick by then.
We had another dog with diabetes in the 90's, so I know how to give the injections. Which Mum is so glad about as she has gone to pieces. But as I told her, it could be so much worse than just diabetes. So now Bailey is on insulin morning and night, and also regulated meals. I'm sure he will pick up in no time. In fact, I think he was a little brighter this evening.
But, my poor little baby!

Oh lord it's so very good to sleep in my own bed again!
The lane conditions were garbage, and I bowled absolute crap along with every one else so we didn't win. But Mum and I had a wonderful time. We got her a walker with a seat on it the weekend before we left and what a brilliant device it was. Mum used it all the time, and it has given her more confidence and independence, and she is getting stronger and stronger every day.
It was lovely to see her having a good time, and everyone in our group was wonderful. They made sure that she was looked after every minute of the day, especially when I bowled. I had no worries at all. Here's a pic of the two of us :
It's good to be home though! Bailey is very happy.

Mum and I are off to Canberra as soon as we both have a shower. Thank god!
Had a bit of drama already. Had to take Bailey to the vet this morning. His rash and infection is back. So had him injected with some antibiotics, and hopefully he will be fine by the time we get back in a week.
Least I hope so. Dad will be home though and he has all the instructions
*SIGH* Another mini drama!

You made it!
It's been hard at times, and a stuggle with your health, but the sun is shining again and it's your birthday.
Love you Mum.

You guys are all awesome.
Really appreciate all your comments. And you have all made me feel so much better.
{{{HUGS}}}
Mum is a bit better today, thank god. And she went to her regular doctor today and he has prescribed another course of the powerful antibiotics to kill the bug. Apparently, the bug is extremely virulent and hard to kill. Mum is more positive that she will start to feel better very soon.
Fingers crossed!

Mum isn't too good again. She's not picking up at all as quickly as I thought she would after coming home, and she's had a few setbacks.
Bugger it all!
She was actually getting better, until we went out for lunch on Saturday for Father's Day. We went to Yum Cha, and she ate too much, too soon. And ended up sick again. So she went home early, and wasn't at all impressed that we didn't all stay at her with her. But you know, Dad and I need a bit of a life too. And she was perfectly fine at home. Besides, Robert was here.
And, of course, since she ate shell fish her gout has flared up again so she couldn't walk without help. She went and saw the doctor from the hospital today for a check up, and her prescribed her gout medication to get her back on track. And of course the gout medication has made her sick on the stomach and given her another bout of gastric.
*SIGH*
Just can't seem to win.
And I hate myself because I am getting angry with it all. I'm sick of being a constant nursemaid and cleaning up after her. And I'm getting sick of her giving in and not even trying to get better. She's lost weight, and is hardly eating anything to get well. So she is so weak and tired all the time.
I guess I am also worrying, because Sunday is her birthday and we have 25 people for a party, not to add that it is exactly two weeks until we go away. I can't afford to be worrying about her in Canberra - I'm the captain of the state team and have responsibilities. But she is also my mother - and a very important part of my life. And I love her.
I'm just a horrible person - I just so need her to rally and get better. And quickly!

Mum came home this afternoon - thank god! Bailey is very happy
She's still weak and has to be careful when she goes to the toilet, as she is still very contagious when that happens. But we have wipes and disinfectant and stuff so it will be fine.
But she's home! YAY!

Mum is still in hospital, but she is slowly getting better. The gastric seems to be slowing down.
Now if she could only stop the cramps and feeling sick on the stomach....
But baby steps. Man thing is she is slowly improving.

Mum's back in hospital with severe gastric.
FUCK!!!
She's dehydrated, so she's on a drip. And she's had this severe gastric for over a week. And it's not stopping.
FUCK!!!!
The hospital is doing a whole bunch of tests though, but tonight she was very lethargic and hardly talking at all.
FUCK!!!!
I'm really starting to panic I think.....
FUCK!!! Just fuck.

Slack one randomly updating - I so suck at this!
Looks like the family is slowly starting to see the light at the end of the sickness tunnel after colds, flu, sinuses etc for the past 8 weeks or so. I had a sinus infection that was actually a virus and came back with a vengeance 3 times causing me to have a couple of days off work each time. And 5 doses of anti-biotics. Which is far too many doses in a short time. Needless to say the body rebelled and I ended up having a day off with extreme nausea. Seems like the worst is over though. Thank god!
Mum and Dad also had the flu during this time - thank god separately. Dad of course was doing the dying swan imitation that men usually do and was very annoying, but he rallied. Thought that Mum may have escaped the flu, but the poor thing actually got it with an added dose of my virus! Bugger. Thankfully, she wasn't too bad although she did end up with a nasty ear infection that is slowly healing after 5 weeks. She was as deaf as a post in that ear. Combine that with Dad's severe industrial deafness and you can just imagine how bloody loud their TV has been!
Robert also got the flu, and even poor little Bailey had a few days unwell. He was very sooky and wimpy, but he's back to his usual self now. And still bugging me for his daily walk. So funny. He won't go very far now though without getting tired, so I end up carrying him part of the way. Personally, I think he does it deliberately. Oh yeah, got me wrapped around his furry little paws!
Brother rat also finally has a permanent job paying decent wages, so I can now start paying off all his bills again. Both his and my credit cards are a tad too high after 6 months of sporadic work. Mine with some of his bills that had to be paid. Even Mum's account has felt the pinch as he hasn't paid any board since before Christmas. And I just figured out it's actually 8 months! Where has the year gone?
Seem to be going through a good bowling patch at present, and have averaged 210 over the past 6 weeks. Fingers crossed that it continues as the Nationals will be here soon. And I really need to win big today. Playing the team coming second, and we don't like them.
We're also throwing Mum a big party next month for her 80th birthday. So I finally got the invitations out.
It's all happening!

It's certainly been a while since I have updated, and there are no excuses once again. I'm just a slack bugger!
I'll jot down the random thoughts as they come to me...
( cut so it's not too big and boring.... )That's about all I can think of at the moment. Hope I haven't bored anybody too much

The bush fires in Vicroria are dreadful. And the death toll this morning stands at 108 with more deaths expected. Over 700 homes lost.
Just unbelievable!
And the fires have been deliberately lit. Bastards!

It's our annual Australia Day long weekend today and I am enjoying a lazy morning. Happy Birthday Australia!
Been a while since I have updated, but all is pretty good. (touch wood). The only thing wrong at the moment is that Mum, Dad & Robert all have some form of gout. And I am pretty stiff and sore today after my first tournament of the year at bowling yesterday. I actually didn't do too bad, would have finished higher up if I didn't start with two really bad games. But I came back with some really excellent scores so it wasn't all bad.
I'll update more later.

Found it very hard this year to get any Christmas spirit, but it hasn't turned out too bad at all.
Of course, the several bottles of wine consumed in the last 18 hours has a lot to do with that.
Hope you all have a happy holiday
